Regina Model Train Show
This annual event is coming up on October 18th - 19th. As we take part in it every year (that it operates) we're in it again this year!
We had best take a look at who is planning to be invovled (for layout and/or display) and get this sucker together.
If you'd like some space in the train layout, please indicate how much space (in 32x32 baseplates) you can manage. We'll put together a map once we start to get an idea of who's in.
Note: the club tables will be changing in size from 4'x8' (~ 5 baseplate x 9 1/2 baseplates) down to 4 baseplates x 9 baseplate (correct me if I'm wrong please Scott)

Re: Regina Model Train Show
We have decided upon the challenge for this show, which will be our 10th official challenge!
SLUG Challenge #10: opposites
The idea is to build, within a 48x48x48 limitation, two things that someone would see as opposites.
Hot and Cold. Life and Death. Winner and Loser.
We also discussed the idea of it being a no-licensed characters challenge, as (although the builds we really well done) that tends to sway the vote a bit. As do moving parts, so none of that either.
Entries will have to be at the show from Satruday morning until near end of show on Sunday. Voted on by the public (as usual) so I might make up small cards to tell what the opposites are just in case.

No licensed characters... are we talking just the the movie? Or DC and Marvel and such.
Side note I'm in for the show. Are we hoping for a bridge display in Regina?

No movie, comic, TV anything. Genaric figs only.
As 'in for the show', are you for the layout or just display? A bridge would depend on number of tables used and the size the layout would be. There is a chance for a bridge since I know Scott wants to use the 4x4 table piece, so there might be an open span of ~ 4' which could require a bridge.
As well, who are you roboticlegoboy as your handle doesn't lend itself to figuring out who you are?
Side note: I am in for the show and good for a tables-worth for the layout.

How much room Andre?
As for the bridge, if we had a four-foot-ish span would you be able to use a couple bridge pieces to cover the gap?
Re: Regina Model Train Show
I have 2 175 stud sections and 3 200 stud sections. So shouldn't be an issue.
As for table space itself I'll take a half table. If Trent is interested we can finally coordinate a build.

lol - I know we talk about it all the time. Are you still going to do your farm idea?
I was originally going to do the Saskatoon train station circa 1920 - but I am now thinking of doing a chemical plant. Just not sure. I definitely want something Saskatoon-ish for February.

I'd do something industrial for Regina. Save the station for Saskatoon.

OK - sounds good Andre. It won't have to necessarily "connect" it'll just be a huge industrial installation. Let's have a branch coming off the main track and running through both layouts though. Maybe right next to the road baseplates?
Adam, can you put Andre and I next to each other on the map??

Yuppers.
I talked a bit with Scott today to confirm the new dimensions of the tables. They'll be 4 1/2 x 9 1/2 baseplates.
I'll try to put together a bit of a map tonight and post it to flickr. So far, we have myself, Scott, Trent, Andre and Ray M. for the layout. That might be it, so it may be worth exploring a linear layout.
Andre, would you be willing to bring the whole bridge?

Possible layout?

Grey areas are not assigned and can be turned into train yard or green space or junk yard or display space for larger creations or whatnot. Make notes on the pic if you can.
As well, it looks like just the 5 of us for the actual layout...

Re: Regina Model Train Show
I'll check tonight to see if it's a possibility.
Would you like me to create the separate bridge as well for the short section? If I know the stud height I might be able to make a Flat deck arch bridge.

With the proposed layout, the only span would be where it says "bridge". If you can bring the bridge that would almost double the length of the layout. If you'd rather do a different bridge, you're more than welcome to. Either way, you're on the hook for the bridge (two-track-wide remember!)
Re: Regina Model Train Show
A quick run-down from this past weekends event:
- layout provided by Scott, Adam, Ray M., Andre, Trent, Jeff, Nathan L and Lorelie
- Chillin' out for a while: Wes, Karen, Colby
- SLUG Challenge #10 participants: Adam, Ray J, Andre, Ray M, Caleb
- SLUG Challenge #10 winner: Ray M
No solid attendance numbers, though putting it between 800-1000 people would be pretty fair. The new venue (Orr Center) was nice, as was our easy-access to the behind the layout via the change-room.
Check out some pics of the event here:

Next year's event is already scheduled for October 17th - 18th at the Orr Center. The gym is planned to be converted into raquetball courts, so we'll be somewhere else in the building. Either way, mark it on your calender!
