To support the Great Ball Contraption I inquired if there was a way of sourcing the soccer balls that are needed for this project. Kim from the LEGO AFOL Relations & Programs Team posted that they have been available through LUGBULK the last several years as part of the friends sets. The responses I have received from ambassadors is there is hope with the new LEGO ideas maze the balls may be available to purchase as parts through the LEGO site directly or possibly on LUGBULK next year.

Several months ago I sourced all the parts needed to build this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG62fp09qE8&list=PLN_zfqwIoq_CYqF2Fvb00Mu-YcsGWGCOC&index=1. It is based on the builder Akiyuki. I have built nearly half of it using youtube instructions online with a few minor glitches. It's a matter of finding time to put it together. The nice thing is that it can be attached to other modules.

The balls have were on the 2016 LUGBULK and I saw Chris had it picked at one point but it later got dropped off our list. This isn't the private side of the forum so I'll refrain from mentioning prices.

You can currently order the balls for $1.01 from Lego replacement parts side https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/replacementparts/sale

BALL Ø14,2

Element 6023209
Design number 72824
Unit Price CAD 1.01

I think there's also an opportunity to put in an order outside the LUGBULK for certain elements for display once per year. So we do have some options Very Happy

An ambassador for another LUG inquired with Kevin H last year about the sourcing balls for the GBC.

Last year, I had asked Kevin Hinkle about that program that you were referring to and he said he was down to his last set and I believe that it was spoken for already. Like Kim, he also suggested that LUGBulk was definitely the route to go source these balls.
